Massaya

A lovely town halfway between Managua and Granada where we strolled over the traditional market. Here we couldn't resist buying things such as cigars, hammocks and CD's - so, everything you need on a travel...

However, the highlight was visiting the Parque Nacional Volcan Masaya. For the very first time we had the opportunity to look into a crater of a still smoking volcano. Impressive 500m diameter and 180m depth combined with the penetrating smell of sulphur of the rising steam are undoubtedly an unforgettable memory!

Afterwards, we visited a native family living right next to the national park. They make a living with breeding und selling of iguanas, turtles and parrots.

Further on the way to Granada we stopped at the Laguna de Apoyo - a beautiful blue crater lake in an extinct volcano.
